I was on a trail with the humans, when we arrived at this wetland. I was curious about the yellow spikes poking out of the mud and water. The flower is unusual and has a familiar smell. It reminds me of a smell I've noticed from a culvert in a ditch. We didn't pick any, so the vase on the kitchen table remains empty.

sweet
Spring flowers have arrived again. A lot of them are yellow. This one caught my eye...and my nose!

Howie and the volcano
April 18
Pyramid Mt. trail, Wells Gray Park
2 hr return
soft trail
shady woods
spring melt puddles
hot and dry on the volcano
no people, no leash
2 paws up (1 paw if Howie wasn't here!)

Howie, my hiking friend
Valleys splash and breathe,
their secrets to sniff
Ridges and peaks
are stages won
Puddles, ponds cool and quench
A trail winds up, around
holding it's promise to us,
the ones who go.
